Commissioned as a relatively simple modern pool cabana, the clients were struggling to bring their vision and various aesthetic tastes together. Exoterra stepped in and developed a Schematic Design that the clients loved and they were broke ground shortly thereafter.

.  .  .

Carefully sited along a ridge on their 20-acre rolling lot, this high-performance custom home was designed as this couple's final retirement home. With BIG dreams and a streamlined budget, Exoterra set out to design a home that took advantage of the sites' wooded views while orienting the home to capture as much natural light as possible. We worked closely with our clients to make design adjustments to assist in their budget goals and the end product was extremely well-received.

This extraordinary home became the "unexpected" vision of our clients. After asking us for a "modern farmhouse" the clients used the phrase "aesthetically jarred" after seeing our concept design model. After explaining how the design solution met, or exceeded, each of their programmatic requirements the clients asked us to continue with the design with only minor adjustments. The end product, forged by shear will and bounded rationalism, became an award winning home that the clients have thoroughly enjoyed.

PATRICK - SELOVE RESIDENCE

The original 1960's ranch style home was in significant need of replacement. We were directed to reuse three of the four existing basement walls and then add onto the house to achieve the clients' programmatic goals. Directly adjacent to thousands of acres of parkland, the roof top deck became a driving force in the design. The angled living room addition was added and oriented to prepare for future solar photovoltaic panels. The unique custom home offers beautiful views, natural daylight, and is extremely energy efficient.

Exoterra provided design and Construction documents for this high-performance builder spec home.

After waiting many years to update their home, the Schulert's, a returning client, commissioned Exoterra to develop a Master Plan design to incorporate a range of features on their estate that they had been dreaming about for years. After much planning and consideration, the clients decided to simplify their vision and planned to develop a dream home a little later on life.

.  .  .

A single story concept design that never really got off the ground. After siting the home and arriving at a design that the client seemed to love, the project went on hold after the client was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Several concept designs produced for a Nashville client over a 12-year span.

All design concepts were fundamentally based on sustainable design principles. Designs evolved, then the project would go on hold. Then the client would come back with more ideas, the design would restart, then the client would put the project on hold again.

Sometimes you run into clients and projects that were just not meant to be.

After they toured one of our LEED Platinum Certified homes, the clients commissioned Exoterra to design their custom, high-performance home. After designing the barn for their 25-acre farm, Exoterra began design on the couple's new passive & active solar, energy-efficient, ICF & spray foam insulated home. Protected by Western shade trees, this home is stunning, comfortable and efficient. Detailed with natural wood beams, and rough-sawn timber, the home is light-filled, warm, and welcoming.

This 1981 underground Terradome home was owned and fully renovated by Exoterra's founder over a 15-year period. All three bathrooms were gutted and updated, as was the entire Kitchen. Existing antique barn wood detailing on the interior was modified and expanded in different areas of the home. All new bamboo flooring, tile and limited carpeted finishes were installed. The home had a new Daikin VRF commercial HVAC system installed, an Ultra-Aire whole-house dehumidifier, and a radon mitigation system. A new drainable EIFS exterior wall system was installed along with new LED lighting inside and out. The pool was refinished and landscaping replaced, as well. This magnificent estate on 8.7 acres will continue to provide its owners with years of comfortable, well-protected, covert living with breath-taking views of nature.
